Section 13
Difficult conversations
When things get tricky.
Most interactions are positive. Occasionally staff meet challenging situations. Remain calm, professional and respectful at all times.
- They say
"I'm fine to drive."
Our recommendation is, when in doubt, not to drive. We're here to encourage everyone to think carefully about their journey home and make the safest choice possible.
- They say
"I've done it loads of times."
I understand. The difficulty is that impairment affects people differently and road conditions change every day. We just want people to have the information to make informed choices.
- They say
"These machines don't work."
The technology used is widely recognised and the test is designed to provide useful information. Ultimately, it's one tool to help people think about their decision.
- Situation
Aggressive or confrontational behaviour.
Do not argue. Do not challenge. Remain polite. If it continues — end the conversation respectfully, notify your supervisor, follow onsite event procedures. Your safety always comes first.
